Gayle King is currently in the hot seat following her interview with WNBA superstar Lisa Leslie.

Earlier this week the CBS This Morning co-host sat with Leslie to discuss NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his legacy. During the interview, King asked about Bryant’s past allegations regarding the sexual assault charges that were dismissed in 2003.

Leslie responded by saying:

“I don’t think it’s something that we should keep hanging over his legacy.”

Fans immediately took to social media to call out King for even bringing up the question. On Bryant fan tweets:

“@GayleKing you should be ashamed of yourself for bringing that question up. It be out people to take us down. Now @GayleKing go interview Harvey Weinstein. Let me see that interview.”

Following the backlash, King shared a video explaining herself and calling out CBS. She says the clip was taken of context.

“I’ve been up reading the comments about the interview I did with Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant. And I know that if I had only seen the clip that you saw, I would be extremely angry with me too. I am mortified, I am embarrassed, and I am very angry. Unbeknownst to me, my network put up a clip from a very wide-ranging interview, totally taken out of context, and when you see it that way, it’s very jarring. It’s jarring to me!”

She adds:

“I didn’t even know anything about it. I started getting calls ‘What the hell are you doing? Why did you say this? What is happening? I did not know what people [were] talking about.”
