Women of color are continuing to break down the wall especially in film.

Earlier this week, during the Oscar announcements, the cast of Marvel movie Black Panther was nominated for best picture. In addition, Hannah Beachler received a nomination for the production design category becoming the first African American to make history. She is the visionary behind the fictional world of Wakanda.

Beachler got the call while working on set in Cincinnati for Todd Haynes’ latest feature.

“I’m crying one minute then doing a little dance the next second and then crying again thinking of the weightiness of it, as well as the humbleness of it and the joy of it. But, you do feel a certain responsibility,” she said. “It means breaking down walls… for young women of color and boys and girls of color to see that this is not impossible.”

Her work credits include Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight and Beyonce’s Lemonade.

Congrats!!!
