For the fans who have been patiently waiting for the movie Last Friday to get a release date, it seems like they will have to keep waiting according to Ice Cube

While appearing on Mike Tyson’s podcast, “Hotboxing’”, Cube spoke about Warner Bros. studio refusing to give the green light for the movie when asked if it was still coming out. “I don’t know. Warner Brothers is weird right now,” the rapper-turned-producer said.

He continued, “I don’t know what they doing, they don’t know what they doing. We’d love to have it back. I think it’s gon’ be close to a time when we get it back. So, we’ll either wait for that time, or we’ll keep trying to convince them that they need to let us control the movie. It’s my movie, but they have distribution control.”

Tyson went on to ask Cube if he was thinking about purchasing the rights to the Friday franchise being that he has written the three movies before. His response was, “I ain’t putting s*** up for it. F*** no. They need to give it to me, and they gon’ make money. I’m not about to pay for my own stuff, that’s stupid… They need to do the right thing, get it to us, let us turn it into more money, and make the fans happy… We can do a lot with it.”

Although the movie is currently on hold, Ice Cube has been thinking about the next moves for each character and has written two screenplays for what could possibly be the final film. He revealed that neither screenplay went anywhere and that the first one was rejected by Warner Bros. because it wasn’t the right time.  The second script recalled that the process wasn’t easy either.

“It was in development hell. They just kept giving you note after note after note, never giving you the green light.” While Last Friday, may be on the self for a while, Cube still has other projects that he is working on.

He is currently working on a project called Mount Westmore, which is a supergroup of West Coast rappers he formed with Snoop Dogg, Too Short, and E-40. “We did it to make sure that the record is iconic because the group is iconic,” he said. “And the record has a lot of different personalities, you know. We’re having a lot of fun on the record. Of course, we’re spitting game.”

Cube added, “And, you know, we’re also showing how ferocious we still are on the mic… Hopefully, it’s a great example to other OGs in the game, that they can get together too. You know, we can have a Mount Eastmore, Southmore. It’s never over if you stay creative and innovative. And if you keep your bars up, you good.”
