It was just a week ago that Will Smith fans learned the Philadelphia native would not be returning to the set for Warner Bros.  Suicide Squad sequel, but moviegoers can rejoice because it’s reported that Idris Elba may be the one to take his place.

According The Hollywood Reporter, Elba is in talks with filmmaker James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Warner Bros. studios to replace Will Smith as Deadshot in the next chapter of The Suicide Squad.

Elba reportedly met with Gunn last Friday (Mar. 1) as he was movie creator’s only choice to take over for Smith.

The film will feature “mostly DC characters who did not appear in David Ayer’s 2016 film,” but fans can expect to see Harley Quinn and Rick Flagg return to the big screen.

While THR says Elba is “in talks” with Gunn and Warner Bros., IMDB has already listed him in the movie’s upcoming cast list.

The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters Aug. 6, 2021.
