International Day of the Girl Spotlight: These Three Young Leaders are the Future for Change

For the past seven years, today (Oct. 11) has been declared International Day of the Girl. This annual event put together by the United Nations General Assembly aims to raise awareness about the challenges girls around the world face about their human rights and it also focuses on empowering them. 

 

Activism is a huge way women around the world show their support for International Day of the Girl.  18-year-old actress/Harvard student Yara Shahidi sat with fashion mogul Tory Burch and expressed why it’s so important for her to gain young voters, especially for the upcoming elcetions. Here are three leading ladies who are young world changers that WBLS honors:

 

1. Yara Shahidi has been named “the voice of her generation” for many reasons. The Black-ish and Grown-ish actress has been endorsed by Maxine Waters, Oprah Winfrey, and Michelle Obama. The young activist also launched Eighteen X 18 which is an outlet she created for the youth the get involved with politics, especially for the upcoming midterm elections.
