Issa Rae is on the road promoting her new movie, Little, and recently stopped by Beautycon to speak alongside co-stars Regina Hall and Marsai Martin during its Black Girl Magic on the Big Screen panel. As Hall and Martin their story about bringing Little to life, the Insecure star addressed what it’s like to work as a Black woman in Hollywood.

“I have to sugarcoat because I know that the environment I’m in will label me as the angry or difficult Black woman,” she said.

“I love working with vocal black women…opinionated black women,” but “”it is frustrating, at times, to feel like you have to constantly work on how you’re going to present something, so you are able to work again in the future.”

Thankfully, when Rae isn’t on set fighting to be respected and heard, she has a shoulder to fall on with her newly-announced fiancé by her side.
