Jam Master Jay’s Murder Trial Date Set 20 Years After Death

Jam Master Jay’s death is finally getting a trial, over 20 years after it happened.

According to TMZ, the murder trial for the record producer and DJ of Run DMC is set to begin on January 29. The jury selection began last week and it involves over 500 candidates. The selection process is to be finalized by January 22.

Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington were indicted in 2020 for the shooting that killed Jay in 2002. Jay Bryant was also charged in the case last year.

According to court documents, the government submitted a motion to advocate for a two-jury trial, which could be becuase of the time gap between the two separate indictments.

Bryant’s lawyer, César de Castro, has said he will be pleading not guilty similarly to Jordan and Washington have done in the past.

“Securing an indictment in a secret grand jury, applying an extremely low burden of proof, is one thing,” he said. “Proving it at trial is another matter.”
