The world has lost another legend, singer Jean Knight.
Jean Knight was best known for her hit song “Mr. Big Stuff.” The song was released in 1971 and stayed on top of the music charts for five weeks.
According to reports, Knight passed away in her hometown of New Orleans last Wednesday at the age of 80. Her family released a statement confirming her passing. See the post below.
Jean Knight began her career in the music industry in 1965 at the age of 22, when she recorded a demo of Jackie Wilson’s “Stop Doggin’ Me Around.” This recording would help her land her first record deal with Jet Star/Tribe Label.
Although her career was off to a slow start, Knight maintained a day job as a baker until she found success with “Mr. Big Stuff.” The song would go on to sell over 3 million copies and has become one of most recognizable funk songs.
Jean Knight’s family has asked for privacy during this difficult time. We will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
