Jean Knight began her career in the music industry in 1965 at the age of 22, when she recorded a demo of Jackie Wilson’s “Stop Doggin’ Me Around.” This recording would help her land her first record deal with Jet Star/Tribe Label.

Although her career was off to a slow start, Knight maintained a day job as a baker until she found success with “Mr. Big Stuff.” The song would go on to sell over 3 million copies and has become one of most recognizable funk songs.

Jean Knight’s family has asked for privacy during this difficult time. We will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
