After a very long battle about the legitimacy of Aretha Franklin’s will, a jury has finally decided its validity.
WBLS recently reported about the dispute between the late singer’s family over her will. Franklin’s sons have been unable to come to terms over the handwritten will that was found in the late singer’s couch in 2018.
The will was written in 2014, however, Franklin previously had a will from 2010, which was also found around the same time. The 2010 will was in a locked cabinet at her home in suburban Detroit.
After a short trial began Monday, the jury deliberated and in less than an hour a verdict was reached. The 2014 will has been considered valid.
“I’m very, very happy. I just wanted my mother’s wishes to be adhered to,” Aretha Franklin’s son, Kecalf Franklin said. “We just want to exhale right now. It’s been a long five years for my family, my children.”
