Jussie Smollett’s sentencing date has been pushed back.
A judge ordered the actor to return to court on March 10th in Chicago which was his original sentencing day.
Reports state that Smollett received the news during a Zoom call as he was in New York at the time of his hearing. The former Empire star was convicted nearly two months ago for lying to the police for staging a hate crime that took place in 2019.
Jussie Smollett was found guilty on five felony counts of disorderly conduct which can end with him receiving a maximum of three years in prison.
His legal team is working to get him a lesser sentence for the low-level crime.
Nenye Uche, Smollett’s defense attorney said, “We are confident in our appellate system, we’re confident in our Illinois Supreme Court. We feel 100 percent confident that this case will be won on appeal.”
