On the latest episode of David Letterman’s Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, Kanye West joins the likes of Barack Obama and Jay-Z and sits down with the former late night talk show host to discuss his mental and emotional rollercoaster.

Leaving no question unanswered, Kanye was very candid with Letterman about the inner workings of his brain what it’s like to have a bipolar episode.

In an attempt to understand ‘Ye’s struggles, Letterman asks, “What is the mechanism that is malfunctioning or taking a break in your brain?”

Very openly, Kanye responds, “I wouldn’t be able to explain that as much because I’m not a doctor. I can just tell you what I’m feeling at the time, and I feel a heightened connection with the universe when I’m ramping up.”

He goes on to compare his mental state to a sprained ankle.

“It is a health issue. This is a sprained brain like having a sprained ankle. And if someone has a sprained ankle, you’re not gonna push on him more. With us, once our brain gets to a point of spraining, people do everything to make it worse.”
