Last year around this time, CNN declared that 2018 would be ‘the year of the woman’ and we couldn’t agree more!  

Women from all walks of life are coming to together to speak up and use their voice to influence change. Women are not just fighting for issues that matter most to them, but we are more active and energized than ever.  

The ladies definitely made a lot of noise in 2018 whether it was in entertainment, politics, and social issues. Furthermore, we plan on keeping that same energy as we enter 2019.  

Let’s take a look at some of the women who dominated all across the board in 2018. 
 

Beyonce Takes Over Coachella, Sorry We Meant Beychella 

 

 

After postponing 2017’s Coachella performance due to the pregnancy of the twins, Beyonce came back this year and turned Coachella into Beychella! Not only did she make history as the first black woman to headline, but she gave the audience and viewers the blackest performance we’ve ever seen. From singing the black national anthem ‘Lift Every Voice Sing’ to her marching band. Bey had us all pledging allegiance to Beta Delta Kappa!   

Christine Blasey Ford’s Testifies in Front of Senate Committee

On September 27, 2018, Christine Blasey Ford opened up before the Senate Judiciary committee and identified herself as the woman, who was sexually assaulted at a high school party by Brett Kavanaugh, who is now a Supreme Court justice. And while Kavanaugh was sworn in, Ford’s story has sparked a conversation globally. Now women can come forward and share their stories. 

19 Female Judges Make History in Texas  

 

 

Harris County, Texas made headlines after 19 African American women who ran for judge, all won. They campaigned together under the slogan “Black Girl Magic” with the support of the Harris County Democratic party and united for a pre-election photograph inside a courtroom. Their victories marked an unprecedented level of success for black female judicial candidates in the county, which includes Houston. With a population of more than 4.5 million, Harris county is bigger than 24 US states. 

Women in Hollywood Started the Time’s Up Movement  

 

 

On New Year’s Day in 2018, women in Hollywood came together to form a movement called Time’s Up which is dedicated to helping women fight sexual misconduct in the workplace. More than 300 women published a letter announcing the $13 million Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund to support women. It’s a continuation of the MeToo movement. 

Two Words… Michelle Obama!!!!

Mrs. Michelle Obama has been traveling the world promoting her best seller book, “Becoming.” which sold over 2 million copies in its first 15 days. The book is also number one No. 1 in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Finland, and Greece. “Becoming” is now being published in 31 languages. And who can forget about Amy Sherald, who unveiled her portrait of our former First Lady? The beautiful portrait hangs in Smithsonian’s gallery. Sherald became the first black artist to be featured in the museum.

Emma Gonzalez Delivers a Chilling Speech At An Anti-Gun Rally 

 

 

Following the mass shooting at Marjory Stonemen Douglas High School and losing 17 students. Emma Gonzalez joined the March for Our Lives movement and delivered a moving speech at an anti-gun rally in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. “The people in the government who voted in power are lying to us. And the kids seem to be the only ones who notice and are prepared to B.S.

Women of Color Made History in the 2018 Midterm Election 

 

 

In the 2018 midterm election, barriers were broken and glass ceilings were shattered. According to the New York Times, “more than a quarter of all candidates running this year were all female, including 84 women of color — 42{cf74dfb42c160c86fab84d92af628b92d0859125321fa10dc87be72131d49b21} increase from just two years ago.” Here is a list of women who made history that night: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Letitia James. 21-Year-Old Sarah Zorn Becomes First Women to Server As Regimental Commander

 

 

The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, announces Sarah Zorn as the first woman in its history to serve as regimental commander, the highest-ranking cadet officer, leading the 2,350-student corps.
