Legendary singer Marlena Shaw has passed away at age 81.
Her daughter made the sad announcement on Facebook, however, no cause of death was revealed. Marlena Shaw is best known for her song “California Soul.” The hit song has been featured in numerous TV shows and movies such as, All Things Must Pass, Bad Sisters, The Lincoln Lawyer, and The Italian Job. The single was also featured in the hit video game Grand Theft Auto V.
Many rappers have sampled her song throughout the years as well. These artists include Jay Electronica, Gang Starr, The Game, Xzhibit, and many more. Aside from recording “California Soul,” she also has hits such as, “Go Away Little Boy,” “Feel Like Making Love,” and “Loving You Was Like A Party.”
