This was a big weekend for actress, Marsai Martin! The 14-year old made her grand debut with her new film ‘Little.’

Marsai is the youngest person on Hollywood to ever executive produce a studio film. This idea to develop her own project came about when she was 10-years-old and on hiatus from the first season of ABC’s “Black-ish.”

According to Backstage.com, her agent suggested that she take a break because she had no upcoming projects. So she and her family decided to try and develop their own projects. Marsai says:

“That’s when we really started plotting our next goal. One of my mom’s favorite movies growing up was ‘Big’ with Tom Hanks. I thought, ‘Oh, OK, what if we do something like that but not like that. Something more modern, with a different perspective, and maybe with an all-black cast.’”

And that is how “Little” came to life. The film which debuted this weekend, is a about a tech mogul (played by Regina Hall) who wakes up one day as her 13-year-old self (played by Marsai). Issa Rae also stars in the film.

When asked how it was like executive producing and acting all at the same time, she says:

“It was cool wearing different hats. I’ve always been interested in directing, writing and producing, so when I went behind the scenes, it was like a whole new world that I got to experience. I had such a big support system to help me out, so it was pretty easy.”

The young actress signed a deal with Universal Pictures earlier this year.
