Mary J. Blige To Receive The Icon Award At This Year’s Billboard Awards

Mary J. Blige has been announced to receive the Icon Award at this year’s Billboard Music Awards next month. 

The singer is a current 10-time Billboard award winner from 1995 to 2006. These awards included, R&B Album of the Year, R&B Albums Artist of the Year, R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, and more. 

“My career has been such an incredible and unexpected journey that has included many turns into avenues I never could have imagined like acting, producing, launching businesses, and now even my own music festival,” Blige said in a press release. 

She went on to say, “Through it all, I have always, one way or another, gravitated back to my first love, music. To be recognized in this way at this moment, with the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, is an incredible honor and one that I am truly humbled by.” 

Mary J. Blige will join other artists who have received this award including Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Mariah Carey, and more. 

Blige will also perform at the show in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The Billboard Music Awards will air on May 15th at 8 p.m. on NBC or Peacock.
