Michelle Obama and Kerry Washington Encourage People to Not Purchase WIC Products

Kerry Washington is asking people to skip over WIC products during this time as they stock up on groceries during this COVID-19 pandemic. On social media, Washington writes:

“When stocking up for #SocialDistancing… If you see something labeled “WIC” please choose another brand. People who rely on WIC products to feed their kids cannot. We’re all in this together.”

For some who are unfamiliar with WIC, it is a federal assistance program provided by the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) of the Food and Nutrition Service of the US Department of Agriculture for healthcare and nutrition of low-income pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children under the age of five.

Former FLOTUS, Michelle Obama retweeted the actress’ message in support and writes:

@KerryWashington is right. The few days of each month are crucial for families that depend on WIC products. Let’s look out for each other by taking the extra few seconds to look at those labels. Every act of kindness counts.”

Let’s all keep this in mind as we stock up during this time.
