Respect! A highway in Detroit, Michigan may be renamed after Queen Aretha Franklin.

A 101-6 decision was made by the Michigan House of Representatives. The decision hasn’t been finalized as of yet, as it is heading to the state Senate for the final decision.

Although the full house didn’t agree to the renaming, majority approved to rename the Michigan’s M-10 to “Aretha L. Franklin’s Memorial Highway.” The singer started her career singing at the New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit. She later retired in her hometown, where she later lost her battle to cancer in 2018.

The bill reads, “the renaming would be an appropriate way to honor a music and cultural icon who selflessly gave of her time, her vocal and pianistic talents, and her energy and resources to the citizens of Detroit, the state of Michigan, and the United States of America.”
