Naomi Osaka To Represent Japan For Her Olympics Debut

It has been confirmed that Naomi Osaka will be representing Japan in the 2021 Summer Olympics. 

Osaka, who was born in Japan and raised in the United States, has dual citizenship will relinquish her US citizenship in order to represent Japan. She spoke about the upcoming event, “It’s definitely going to be very special. I think there’s no other place that I’d rather play my first Olympics of course.” 

In 2018, Osaka became a national name after defeating Serena Williams during the Grand Slam singles tournament. She recently made headlines after she decided to pull out of the French Open to take care of her mental health. She also withdrew from Wimbledon in mid-June. 

The Olympics will begin on July 23rd.
