Weeks after the season 2 premiere of She’s Gotta Have It, Netflix announced its decision to cancel the Spike Lee series inspired by his 1986 film debut.

For those unaware of the announcement, Lee posted a video on Instagram confirming the news, but let fans know this isn’t the end.

“What’s up, people! If you did not hear, yesterday Netflix decided not to bring back She’s Gotta Have It for a third season. But don’t fret, there may be a chance we can find another home, but it has to be the right home.”

While Netflix hasn’t shared why it decided to nix the show, Variety says, “[Netflix] evaluates shows on a viewing versus cost basis, meaning if a show does not prove a big enough draw with subscribers it will not continue.”

Netflix’s Chief Content Office, Ted Sarandos, released a statement on behalf of the company, saying,  “Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we’re thrilled he brought the series She’s Gotta Have It (1986, based on his first feature film) to Netflix.”

Sarandos went on to tell fans not to shed tears just yet because Netflix is working with the legendary filmmaker on his next project, Da 5 Bloods.
