Who knew??

The iconic remake of ‘I Will Always Love’ sang by Whitney Houston was almost taken by another powerful singer, Patti LaBelle. As you know the song was originally written and sung by Dolly Parton, however, Houston was not the first choice.

During an interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the R&B diva revealed that Dolly personally asked her to cover the classic. Patti says:

“Dolly Parton offered it to me before ‘The Bodyguard,’ and I said to Dolly, ‘Oh, yes. I want to do that song, honey.’ Who wouldn’t? Before I could say real yes, it was in the movie and Whitney killed it. So, I have not done it since Whitney, but I plan to put it in my show one day.”

Patti also shared that Whitney was the perfect candidate for the song.

“I was so happy that Whitney got that song and it just went as it did. That’s how show business is. You never know what you’re gonna put down.”
