The old saying “closed mouths don’t get fed” still hold true to this day, and one TikTok user is a testament of that. Queer Georgia writer, Aurielle Marie, received word that they will be honored with the 2022 Writer of the Year Award in New York. Upon learning the news, Marie took to TikTok to ask a favor from pop artist Lizzo; to borrow her Emmy’s dress for the ceremony.

The ask was big but not uncalled for. Marie’s feat is groundbreaking. This year, their first poetry collection Gumbo Ya Ya, was released and received many honors including Cave Canem poetry award. In their own words, Marie’s collection is “about growing up fat, Black, and queer in the South.” Marie was also chosen as one of Out 100’s LGBTQ+ Literary and Publishing stars of the year.
Although the writer was excited about being honored, she realized that the fashion industry is not too kind to bigger sizes, especially in formal wear. They then used the power of TikTok to reach out to Lizzo to request her 2022 Emmy’s dress to wear to the event “I can’t find anything that is big bitch and red carpet ready,” they said in the video.“I know you know how it feels to be the biggest bitch in the room and all the scrutiny that comes with that… The audacity that you’ve marked in your career has helped me step out and be audacious myself.”
Ask and you shall receive.
Lizzo got word of the request and made it her mission to get the accomplished writer the dress in time. Marie was about to head to the airport to attend the awards ceremony when she received the package.
