R.I.P.: Jazz And Blues Legend Barbara Morrison Dies At Age 72

Barbara Morrison, a Jazz and Blues legend has passed away at age 72. 

According to reports, Morrison passed away on Wednesday, March 16th. A GoFundMe account was created for her when news spread that she was sent to the hospital with cardiovascular disease. 

Morrison’s manager, Timothy Morganfield said “It’s just a big big loss… everybody I talked to.. tears galore. 

Barbara Morrison is a three-time Grammy-nominated singer who moved to Los Angeles from Detroit in 1971, making th city her home. After working with the legendary blues singer Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, Morrison’s career soared as she began singing at festivals in California. She also toured with Ray Charles in Europe. 

Besides singing, she was also an adjunct associate professor of global jazz studies at UCLA. In 2020 a scholarship for Jazz was launched in her honor. 

Fans made a memorial outside the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center to remember the singer.
