R&B Group, Blackstreet, Honored With Street In New Jersey

Grammy award-winning vocal group Blackstreet was honored with their own street in Paterson, New Jersey this weekend. At a ceremony that took place on Friday, a stretch of road on Presidential Boulevard was renamed Blackstreet Boulevard.

On June 23, the Paterson City Council approved the naming of Presidential Blvd. between West Broadway and Temple St., as “Blackstreet Blvd.” in the city after the renowned group.

“Blackstreet is literally on the mapđź“ŤWords can not express the amount of joy we have at this moment. Having a street dedicated to us in our honor from the city we grew up in is beyond anything we would have imagined when we were kids,” the group commented.

Councilwoman-at-Large Dr. Lilisa Mimm shared, “I believe in recognizing our local talent and giving them their flowers while they can smell them.” She added, “honoring our artists’ achievements and contributions is essential for preserving our city’s cultural heritage and inspiring future generations.”

Blackstreet peaked in the 90s, giving fans hits such as  “Before I Let You Go,” and “No Diggity.” The group has had several phases of member with many breaking off to start solo careers. Currently the group consists of members Chauncey “Black” Hannibal, Levi Little, Mark Middleton and Eric Williams.
