Sha’Carri Richardson Will Not Be Able To Run 100-Meter Olympic Race For Testing Positive for Marijuana

Sha’Carri Richardson, who won the women’s 100-meter race at the U.S track and field trials could miss the Games.

According to The United States Anti-Doping Agency, it was announced that Sha’Carri tested positive for marijuana.

The New York Times reports:

Richardson had accepted a suspension of one month, starting on June 28. That could clear her in time to run in the 4×100 meter relay that takes place later in the Games — if she is named to the U.S. team.

During an interview with NBC, Richardson opened up about how she’s been coping with the unexpected death of her biological mother and marijuana was one of the ways she would cope. She says:

“It sent me into a state of emotional panic. I didn’t know how to control my emotions or deal with my emotions during that time.”

Richardson apologized to her family, fans, and sponsors.
