Steve Harvey is chiming in on the recent comedy-drama.
A few weeks ago, the living legends, Mo’Nique and D.L. Hughley, went back and forth over a miscommunication from a contract.
During the Steve Harvey morning show, the radio host addressed comments Mo’Nique said about him following the miscommunication.
Mo’ hopped on Live a few days prior and said, “I’ve never stopped being a stand-up comedian, baby. I’ve been out there on that road doing my thing the whole time, so stop trying to put a false narrative out there—that’s Steve Harvey’s big word—stop trying to put a false narrative out there.”
Steve Harvey responded on-air, “Let me just open by saying I could care less than a…about what you think about me because clearly—clearly—I’m not your problem. He continued,
“And you know what? Anyone who knows me, who really knows me, can’t even make that statement.” He continued,
“Her management, whoever he is, simply stated, ‘I got this gig, you co-headline.’ I promise you that’s what was told. … And that was incorrect information because D.L. put that contract online. He was 100 percent headlining. Co-headlining affects the money. If you’re co-headlining, you’re gonna get the same cash.”
The king and queen of comedy had a show at the Comedy Explosion in Detroit. Mo’Nique became a trending topic after a video went viral of Mo’Nique saying some harsh words to D.L. According to Mo’Nique, she was supposed to headline the show but didn’t. She told the crowd, “That’s what the motherf*cking contract says…Mo’Nique is to be the last motherf*cking person on the got damn stage. She is the headliner. That’s what I signed the contract for.”
D.L. responded and said he was the headliner, according to his ticket stub. In a lengthy I.G. post, he said he was the headliner. He wrote,
“All you have to do is check the order of names on the ticket stub from last night and you’ll see who’s confused. Against my better judgment, over the objections of my team and 4 other occasions where I said NO, I decided to take a chance and work with Monique.” Then D.L. brought up past issues Mo’Nique had with other people, some have since been resolved. D.L. continued,
“Oprah was the problem, Tyler Perry was the problem, was the problem, Steve Harvey was the problem, Lee Daniels was the problem, Netflix was the problem… Now it’s MY turn. At some [point], it can’t be everyone else, I.T.’S YOU!! Lesson learned.” He ended with,
“I didn’t have anything personal against Monique… People paid a lot of money to laugh, not hear about your contract. Apparently, the role you played in PRECIOUS turned out to be an autobiography. I wonder who’s next.” Take a look:
