Tabitha Brown is one of the biggest names and influencers that we’ve come across in recent years.
After going viral for her review of Whole Foods’ TTLA sandwich, the vegan powerhouse landed a partnership with the brand, however, it was there that she learned that she was selling herself short.
During a recent appearance on the Earn Your Leisure podcast, Brown spoke about the times she left huge amounts of money on the table after leaving brand deal meetings because she didn’t have a lawyer with her.
“I was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna just go as big as I can and ask for a crazy amount of money and see what they say,’” she told the hosts. “And they were like, ‘Hmm, we can’t give it to you at once, but what if we break it up and you do a couple of other things throughout the year for us?’ And I was like, ‘Okay.’ I didn’t know. I didn’t even have an attorney at this time.”
Brown explained how her friend, Stephen Love became her manager and helped her get the best out of her deals moving forward after realizing that she was being lowballed.
“When they said ‘Yes’ too quick, we was like, ‘Oh, we know we was too low,’” she said. “So on the next deal, we was like, ‘Go higher and see what they say.’ They said, ‘Yeah.’ Oh, we are still too low. That’s how we kinda learned over the years.”
After learning from her mistakes, Tabitha Brown and her team have landed 56 brand deals in cookware, food, and clothing with Target!
