Taraji P. Henson has landed a new role in the upcoming Annie Live!.
The actress is set to play the role of Miss Hannigan. NBC announced that Henson is the first actor to be cast for the role in the production. They also announced that a nationwide casting search to find the perfect person to play the role of Annie.
Susan Rovner, the chairman of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming’s entertainment stated, “When we decided to bring back NBC’s holiday musical tradition, we were looking for something that was critically acclaimed and universally beloved- and while that’s definitely the case with ‘Annie’, it absolutely applies to Taraji as well.”
She continued, “Watching her take on this iconic role will be a thrill that has all the makings of must-watch television.”
Henson will play the role that was once played by Carol Burnett in 1982, and Kathy Bates in 1999. Miss Hannigan is known for terrorizing the girls of the orphanage.
The production is set to air on December 2nd.
