The Suspect In Jacqueline Avant's Murder Pleads Guilty

The suspect in the murder of Jacqueline Avant has pleaded guilty. Aariel Maynor, 30, reportedly revealed that he broke into the Avant’s home on December 1, 2021, and used an “assault long barrel pistol” to fatally shoot Jacqueline and to shoot at the security guard. He has pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder, attempted murder as well as two counts of burglary. Maynor faces a maximum sentence of 170 years in prison without the possibility of parole. “This crime continues to shock the conscience. Mrs. Avant’s death was a tragic loss felt by our entire community,” the Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón stated. “Our Bureau of Victim Services will continue to be in contact with the family and their representatives to offer trauma-informed services.” Jacqueline Avant was the wife of Clarence Avant, known as the “Godfather of Black Music”, and a well-known philanthropist. The family released a statement to thank the community for their gracious outpouring of support. “Jacqueline was an amazing woman, wife, mother, philanthropist, and a 55 year resident of Beverly Hills, who has made an immeasurable positive contribution and impact on the arts community.” It went on to say, “She will be missed by her family, friends, and all of the people she has helped throughout her amazing life.” Aariel Maynor is due to appear in court on March 30th.
