Tyler Perry Reveals Why He Brought Madea Out Of Retirement

She’s back! Tyler Perry has decided to bring back his most famous character, Madea, out of retirement.

Perry has partnered with Netflix to release the 12th installment of the franchise called Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming and revealed why he decided to bring her back after the 2019 release of A Madea Family Funeral.

“I was looking at the state of the world and how polarized it is… nobody’s laughing. Nobody’s getting the chance to belly-laugh anymore. And I’m like, ‘What tool do I have in my arsenal that can bring that kind of laughter?” Perry said.

He went on to explain that this next installment is centered around Madea’s great-grandson’s college graduation, and the secrets that the family has been holding too that can possibly destroy the homecoming.

He also revealed that the movie has an important LGBTQ storyline. “How long does it have to be before you understand something? Even if you don’t understand, be open… I just think that if everything gets accepted in love, then you get a chance to see the person for who they are rather than what you think they are.”

The film will have Tamela Mann, David Mann, and Aunt Bam in it. He also teased Madea’s return in a recent social media post.

The movie is set to premiere on Netflix on February 25th.
