One of Hollywood’s most well-known couple actress Jada Pinkett-Smith and her husband, Will Smith continue to delve deep in the trials in their 20 plus year marriage on the Facebook Watch series “Red Table Talk”. In the premiere of season two, the couple shared an in-depth conversation where they talked about essentially “rebuilding” their marriage.

“We essentially had to destroy our marriage,” Smith said. “I can’t do this anymore, and to me, it was over, but divorce was never even an option. I’ve been divorced before, I wasn’t getting divorced again.” Smith, was married to the mother of his first son Trey, Sheree Zampino from 1992 to 1995, after which he started a relationship with then Jada Pinkett.

“It never even crossed my mind,” Pinkett-Smith agreed. Pickett understood the need for divorce, but felt as if it wasn’t what the couple needed at that moment. “We just needed to get an agreement between he and I”.

“I was devastated even worse than a divorce”, Smith shared as he recalls the most difficult times. “We broke up within our marriage and got back together again and had to rebuild with new rules and something way completely different”.

Smith attributed the marriage troubles as one of the reason why he took a hiatus from the big screen from 2008 to 2012. “I took off for two years. I worked on myself. I’ve read 50 books on marriage and relationships and behavioral psychology,” he said. “I was not going to fail in this marriage. But, I shut down for two entire years to see what I was doing wrong.”

“Ultimately to have a successful relationship, you have to have a relationship with a human being,” Pinkett Smith explained. The successful relationship Pinkett Smith alluded to was not marriage. “Will and I have decided to even throw away the concept of marriage. It’s a life partnership in the sense that wen created a foundation together that we know is for this lifetime”, she said.

Before the end of the episode, the “Fresh Prince” star took the time to clear up rumors about their marriage. For the record, they’ve never been Scientologists or Swingers.
