Wendy Williams has fired her court-appointed attorney, Linda Redlisky, as she continues her fight to end her legal guardianship. The former talk show host, 60, made the decision on Wednesday, January 29, citing dissatisfaction with Redlisky’s handling of her case.
Wendy Williams Takes Legal Action
According to sources, Williams had asked Redlisky to file paperwork requesting a trial to determine whether her guardianship was necessary. However, when the documents were not submitted as requested, Williams decided to part ways with her legal representative.
In an update posted on a GoFundMe campaign launched by Williams and her niece, Alex Finnie, they expressed their frustration with the legal system. “It’s time to stand up!!! Enough is enough!!!! It’s time to push back against this flawed system,” the statement read.
The GoFundMe page, which has nearly reached its $50,000 goal, states that donations will be used to cover legal expenses, including retaining specialized legal counsel, filing necessary court documents, and securing expert testimony. The funds will be used to pay a $20,000 retainer fee for Williams’ new legal team at Schwartz Sladkus Reich Greenberg Atlas LLP (SSRGA), with attorneys Jason Atlas and Brett Nussbaum leading the case.
Williams has been vocal about her struggles under the guardianship, describing it as deeply restrictive. “I’ve been with this guardian person for three years. For three years of my life,” she said in a recent interview. “I can’t go out. All I can do is look out the window.”
She further expressed her frustration, stating, “My life is screwed up. I feel like I’m in prison. I feel like they’re trying to control me and everything I do.”
The legal battle comes as Williams hopes to travel to Florida to celebrate her father’s 94th birthday. “I don’t know whether I’m allowed to fly to Miami to say happy birthday to my dad,” she said. “That person that you talk about who is holding me hostage — I don’t know that she’s going to let me.”
Williams’ guardianship was put in place following concerns about her welfare and finances. Legal representatives for her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, have argued that Williams has been diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, conditions that allegedly impair her ability to make financial and legal decisions. However, Williams continues to deny these claims, asserting that she is mentally capable and a victim of “emotional abuse.”
