Karen Huger, a prominent figure on The Real Housewives of Potomac, has been sentenced to two years in prison, with one year suspended, following a DUI conviction. The 61-year-old reality star will serve one year behind bars and remain on probation for five years upon her release.

Karen Huger Faces Jail Time After DUI Conviction

Huger’s sentencing follows a December 2024 guilty verdict for multiple offenses, including driving under the influence, negligent driving, and failure to control speed. She was, however, acquitted of reckless driving. The judge noted that Huger had a history of traffic violations, emphasizing that previous leniency had not resulted in changed behavior.

The charges stem from a March 2024 crash in Potomac, Maryland. Huger reportedly lost control of her Maserati, hitting a pedestrian crossing sign and crashing into a tree. Police body camera footage from the scene captured Huger telling officers, “Oh God, I’m lit!” when asked if she had been drinking.

During the trial, the prosecution argued that Huger had been given multiple chances to change her behavior but failed to do so. Prosecutor Jordan Kramer stated, “Ms. Huger has repeatedly been given the benefit of another chance on three separate occasions. She has not learned anything from her prior arrests.”

The defense, however, argued that the incident was a result of an adverse reaction to a combination of alcohol and prescription antidepressant medication. Huger’s attorneys pushed for leniency, stating that she had voluntarily entered a rehabilitation program in January 2025 to address her substance use issues.

Reality Star’s Response and Future

Before sentencing, Huger expressed remorse for her actions. “I take full responsibility for my actions and am committed to making amends,” she said in a statement. She also thanked her supporters for standing by her during this difficult time.

Huger has 30 days to appeal the court’s decision. Meanwhile, her future on The Real Housewives of Potomac remains uncertain. Bravo has not yet commented on how her legal troubles might affect her role on the show.
