Sister Sister is one of the most beloved sitcoms of the 90s. Starring Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry-Housley, the show launched the twins into superstardom. With recent speculation about a possible reboot of the series, Tia revealed that she is open to being involved in a future project.
In an interview with PEOPLE at the launch event for Overjoyed, she expressed her sentiments about a new version of the show.
“I will say this: It was such a beautiful, amazing show, and a part of me also just wants to leave it there. You know what I mean? Let it be,” she explained.
Running from 1993-1999, the series followed the identical twin sisters who were separated at birth and reconnected as teenagers. Their adoptive parents Ray and Lisa (Tim Reid and Jackée Harry) end up living together and raising them as a family.
She also admitted the show’s finale was so special to her that she may not want to reopen the closed chapter.
“But it was so wonderful and so amazing. So I feel like, to be honest with you, I also have that feeling as well,” she continued.. “So I’m like, okay, never say never, but it was such a great show and I wouldn’t want to mess it up in any kind of way. It’s a classic.”
On the occasion of the show’s 30th anniversary, Tia and her TV mom Harry took to social media to mark the significant milestone with clips and throwback pictures from the show.
“Today is the 30th anniversary of Sister, Sister and I’m so grateful for this show and the experiences it has given me. It was the first time I really believed in myself and my dreams. I remember being on a press tour in New York when the show premiered, feeling like all my hard work and prayers had paid off,” the Family Reunion star wrote.
She also shared that the show was initially rejected but eventually picked up by the ABC.
“My sister and I faced rejection when our show wasn’t initially picked up, but we didn’t give up. We prayed and were later told the show would be a mid-season replacement,” she wrote. “We were back up. Whenever I feel like I get to a place where I want to quit, I go back to that moment and remember that dreams do come true and to keep going and keep believing.”
Harry wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “30 years since our little show premiered! We didn’t predict this longevity or success, but it should come as no surprise. When you put love, friendship, identity & heritage at the core of your work, it turns into something everyone can relate to.”
