Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, have been found guilty of wire fraud.
According to reports, he and his mother were found guilty on March 28, of one charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud each. Each charge carries a sentence of 20 years in prison.
The mother/son duo are slated to be sentenced on July 11. Kingston went on social media to react to the news of the verdict. In his Instagram stories he wrote, “Lately they been tryna break me on the daily.”
In May 2024, Kingston and Turner were arrested during a raid at his Florida mansion after he was sued for “allegedly failing to pay for several luxury items.” It was later discovered to be a wire fraud scheme.
The lawsuit against them was filed by Ver Ver Entertainment LLC, which accused the “Beautiful Girls” singer of scamming the company out of high-end electronics. The lawsuit states that in exchange for the stolen electronics, Kingston agreed to do promotional videos for the products with Justin Bieber.
He made a $30,000 down payment for the products and agreed to make a second payment of $47,000. The rest would’ve been paid in the form of social media posts. However, Kingston would breach their contract after he failed to make the second payment and make any promo videos.
The Plaintiff’s attorney, Dennis Card, said that Kingston worked from a script to get money out of people. “He’s got basically a script. He says that he works with Justin Bieber and that he obviously puts on a big show here,” Card said. “This is a rental house, he doesn’t own it, and he lures people using his celebrity into having them release things without him paying for it and then he simply never pays.”
He continued, “He’s 100 percent a scammer. He’s on felony probation right now for trafficking in stolen property. He’s got judgments against him for procuring more than $1 million in watches without paying for them. This is just an ongoing pattern for Sean.”
