The 15-year-old son of former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kim Zolciak has been arrested on felony charges involving the alleged sexual assault of a classmate. Kroy “KJ” Biermann Jr. was taken into custody by Alpharetta police on Monday, Aug. 17, following an investigation into an incident reported earlier this spring.
According to Fulton County Juvenile Court documents, the teenager faces charges of aggravated sodomy and aggravated sexual battery. The charges stem from an alleged April 23 encounter at a Life Time Fitness facility in the Atlanta area. A female classmate, also 15, told investigators that KJ led her into a changing area near a family locker room.
The girl alleged that despite her repeated refusals, the teenager groped her and forced sexual contact before she was able to escape the room. Authorities reviewed surveillance footage that confirmed the younger Biermann was present at the gym on the date of the incident.
The victim reportedly disclosed the assault to school officials the following day after suffering a panic attack upon seeing the suspect’s girlfriend. Zolciak, 48, issued a lengthy statement on Friday vigorously defending her son and dismissing the allegations as “reckless and deeply troubling.”
She noted that a medical examination of the accuser yielded no male DNA and claimed her son had voluntarily passed a polygraph test. “He categorically denies ever being involved with this woman or engaging in the conduct she has alleged,” the reality television alum said.
The arrest adds further turmoil to the Biermann family as Zolciak and her estranged husband, former NFL player Kroy Biermann, continue a high-profile and litigious divorce. The couple, who married in 2011, have spent months trading accusations regarding parenting fitness and financial stability.
KJ is currently being held without bond at the Metro Regional Youth Detention Center. Legal records indicate a preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Sept. 8. Attorneys for the family have not released further details regarding their planned defense.
