Actor Val Kilmer has passed away at 65.
Kilmer reportedly died of pneumonia in Los Angeles, surrounded by family and friends, according to his daughter.
Throughout his career, Kilmer has played opposite Tom Cruise in 1986’s “Top Gun” as Iceman. He would reprise his role in “Top Gun: Maverick” in 2022. Many tributes to the late actor began to surface on social media for the late actor.
The official “Top Gun” account on Twitter/X said, “Remembering Val Kilmer, whose indelible cinematic mark spanned genres and generations. RIP Iceman.”
Fellow actor Josh Brolin wrote on Instagram, “See ya, pal. I’m going to miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those. I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually get there. Until then, amazing memories, lovely thoughts.”
Kilmer also battled health issues. In 2015, he was diagnosed with throat cancer, and in 2017, he revealed that he was recovering from it. During an interview in 2021, he said that he had undergone a tracheostomy that permanently damaged his voice.
“It isn’t easy to talk and be understood,” he wrote on his website in 2022. “I am improving all the time, but am not able to be out in the world the same way I had become accustomed.” In 2021, the documentary “Val” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, which documented his life while battling throat cancer.
“I have behaved poorly. I have behaved bravely. I have behaved bizarrely to some. I deny none of this and have no regrets because I have lost and found parts of myself that I never knew existed. And I am blessed,” he said at the end of the film.
We will keep his family and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.
