Throughout the remarkable career of Chaka Khan, she has received many accolades. But being named an honorary flower girl at her granddaughter’s wedding has to be one of her all-time favorite honors, PEOPLE reports.
Taking to Instagram, Khan shared the beautiful day of matrimony for her granddaughter Daija Jade Holland and the groom.
“A beautiful family moment worth celebrating 💐💜,” Khan captioned the photos. She added that she was “right there to witness the joy, love, and magic of the day.”
”Congratulations to the radiant newlyweds!” she concluded.
In the photo, Khan is seen walking down the aisle in a white dress with golden patterns alongside a little boy, in a white suit, who served as the ring bearer, holding a small basket of rose petals, making their way to the altar.
The bond between Khan and her granddaughter is a special one. The Grammy winner notably was grant custody of Holla when she was nine years old and helped raise her. They also share a birthday.
Speaking with The Guardian in April 2017, the “Ain’t Nobody” singer shared how it was to raise her granddaughter.
“There are a lot of things I missed as a young mom, because I was too busy growing up myself,” Khan explained. “I’m better at it now. I adopted my granddaughter — my son’s daughter — when she was nine. She’s just turned 16. Becoming a mother again later in life was meant to be.”
Along with Holland, Khan also has a daughter, Indira “Milini” Khan, 51, and three other grandchildren: Raeven Alexis Gibson, Jett Khan-Corley, and Josh Khan-Corley.
