Teyana Taylor, the multi-talented R&B singer-actor from Harlem, has officially enrolled in culinary school. In an Instagram reel shared on June 11, 2025, Taylor donned a chef’s coat and hat as she marked the start of her culinary journey alongside her nine-year-old daughter, Junie.
In the caption, she wrote, “Went into my first day of Culinary school with a banggggggg … A dream I’ve carried in my heart for so long is finally becoming a reality.” She added that cooking is “my passion, my peace, my therapy.”
From Harlem Kitchen to Culinary Home
Taylor revealed that her love of food began early in life. She shared that by age 13 or 14, she had become the neighborhood’s “hood Betty Crocker” in Harlem, baking cakes for neighbors and relatives with pride. She described watching the women in her family prepare meals as formative: “I remember being glued next to whoever was in the kitchen while the other kids played around!”
She emphasized that cooking is more than a hobby—it has always been her solace, especially through her busy career and motherhood. “No matter how hectic life gets, I find comfort in the rhythm of it all—the chopping, the stirring, the creating,” she said.
Studying Culinary and Pastry Arts
Taylor confirmed she will study both culinary and pastry arts, fulfilling a long-postponed goal. Her friend Alexis Welch Stoudemire encouraged her to enroll and connected her with the school she is now attending.
She expressed deep gratitude: “Turning dreams into reality hits different when you’ve been a dreamer and a prayer warrior!”
The Balancing Act: Entertainment and Education
Despite her new culinary focus, Taylor continues her acting work. She is slated to appear in Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film One Battle After Another alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Regina Hall, set to premiere on September 26, 2025.
