Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Kehlani is giving back in a heartfelt way. In honor of their latest single “Folded,” they are offering free laundry services for single mothers. The initiative is a one-day event and takes place nationwide on Saturday, August 9.
Partnering with the nonprofit the Laundry Project, Kehlani will pay for laundry costs at select laundromats. The service runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. local time.
A Giveback, Not a Gathering
In the announcement, Kehlani emphasized this gesture is “a giveback, not a gathering.” They urged, “I’d appreciate [it] if you guys really let who needs this have the opportunity.”
The singer opened up about their own experiences. “Growing up, I knew how hard it was for all the single mamas in my family to get the tasks done on top of it all. Clean clothes [are] a basic necessity. I got y’all,” they wrote.
They added a message of gratitude: “A thank‑you for sending this song over the moon… I love you, [mommies]. You deserve the world.”
Seven Cities, One Purpose
The service appears in seven U.S. cities: Oakland (Kehlani’s hometown), Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles (Long Beach), Washington D.C., and New York City.
In Charlotte, for instance, the event happens at LaundroLab Laundromat on Beatties Ford Road. No RSVP is needed; service is first come, first served.
Though the outreach spans multiple cities, Kehlani will not physically attend any location. Their goal is solely to support single mothers.
