Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn (MDC) in New York, reportedly avoided a stabbing attack while asleep, according to his legal team and associates.
His attorney, Brian Steel, told the court that another inmate approached with a shank and attempted to stab Combs, but a guard intervened. “It’s a trophy for them, they get recognition if they harm him,” Steel said.
Combs, who is serving a federal sentence after convictions on prostitution-related charges, was described by Steel as living in constant fear and deprived of restful sleep. “He has not slept more than two hours consecutively since his arrest,” Steel added.
“He woke up with a knife to his throat,” claimed longtime friend and confidant Charlucci Finney in a recent interview. He characterized the incident as intimidation rather than outright homicide.
The revelation comes just days after Combs’ legal team alleged that he subsists on chips eaten from bags and endures a punitive environment behind bars. “He eats out of bags: chips,” Steel said, describing the conditions of confinement.
In Custody Pressure
Prison officials have not publicly confirmed the stabbing incident. The Bureau of Prisons did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
Steel emphasized the unique vulnerability of Combs while in custody. “Sean is not a typical person in custody, everyone knows him,” he said.
According to media reports, the MDC–Brooklyn has been the subject of concerns about violence and inmate safety, including frequent stabbings and gang‐related incidents.
Combs’ defense argues this backdrop makes his placement particularly hazardous. They are pressing for him to be moved to a less‐volatile environment.
Combs was sentenced in early October 2025 to 50 months in prison and fined $500,000, after being found guilty on two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution.
At his sentencing hearing, the near‐attack in jail was cited by his attorney as a reason for leniency. Prosecutors had sought an 11-year term; the defense asked for 14 months.
In court, Steel remarked, “He has punished himself more than anyone will ever be able to punish him.”
