When the 2028 Summer Olympics come to Los Angeles, LeBron James and Stephen Curry may not be on the team.
Appearing on the Mind The Game podcast, James made it clear that he will not be suiting up.
“You already know my answer,” James told his podcast co-host and former Phoenix Suns star Steve Nash and Curry. “I will be watching it from Cabo,”
Curry, who played in his first Olympics last summer in Paris, left the door slightly open.
“Never say never,” Curry responded.
Curry shared that he and James spoke about playing in 2028.
“God willing, I still have the choice and the physical option to feel like I can actually impact the team. I’d never say never, but I highly doubt it,” Curry explained. “I’d love to be a part of the movement.”
James said, “We can’t top what we just did, and we can’t top those last two games, and just, the moment.”
James continued, “We literally played France in Paris.”
After bringing home the gold medal, Curry told PEOPLE he and James developed “a deepened respect and friendship” in Paris.
“All the battles we’ve had on the court and the back and forth. The fact that we actually got to be teammates, not just in any game like an All-Star game or whatever, but in high-stakes basketball with a lot on the line…I think we motivated each other even more,” Curry said.
Outside of the Olympics, Curry recently announced his departure from Under Armour.
“Under Armour believed in me early in my career. And gave me the space to build something much bigger and more impactful than a shoe. I’ll always be grateful for that.” Curry said. “Curry Brand was created to change the game for good. And over the past 5 years, we successfully changed the game for kids, for communities, and for basketball. What Curry Brand stands for, what I stand for, and my commitment to that mission will never change. It’s only growing stronger. I’m excited for a future that’s focused on aggressive growth. And a continued commitment to keep showing up for the next generation.”
