Disgraced actor Bill Cosby, who faced allegations of drugging several women before sexually assaulting them, may be facing new legal trouble, a published report suggests.
As TMZ reports, Cosby admitted under oath that he had received a recreational prescription for quaaludes that he hoped to give women before having sex with them. He initially received them for a sore back.
Cosby said he obtained seven prescriptions for quaaludes through gynecologist, Dr. Leroy Amar, while playing poker more than a half-century ago — specifically, before 1972.
The circumstances surrounding the prescription have raised further questions, particularly given that Amar later lost his medical license in California in 1979.
During the 70s, Cosby referred to the quaaludes as “disco biscuits” – known to induce disorientation and euphoria. As the Washington Post reported in 2015, Amar was fully aware that the prescriptions he gave to Cosby were not being used by the entertainer.
“Did he know when he gave you those prescriptions that you had no intention of taking them?” a lawyer asked Cosby in the 2005 deposition.
“Yes,” the entertainer replied.
“Did you believe at that time that it was illegal for you to dispense those drugs?”
“Yes,” Cosby answered.
Donna Motsinger’s Lawsuit Against Bill Cosby
The latest testimony arrives as part of a civil case brought by Donna Motsinger, obtained by the outlet on Wednesday (Jan 28). Motsinger claimed Cosby invited her to a stand-up performance and while they were in his dressing room, he gave her what she believed was an aspirin.
“Next thing she knew, she was going in and out of consciousness while two men attending to Mr. Cosby were putting her in the limousine with Mr. Cosby,” her legal team said in a statement. “In the limousine, Mr. Cosby sat near the window and put his arms around her. The last thing Ms. Motsinger recalls were flashes of light. She woke up in her house with all her clothes off, except her underwear on – no top, no bra, and no pants. She knew she had been drugged and raped by Bill Cosby.”
Cosby is currently seeking to have Motsinger’s lawsuit dismissed, though the case remains active. The lawsuit is one of several accusations made against the comedian over the years.
Amar, who also practiced plastic surgery died in 2002 at age 71.
Cosby is best know for his portrayal of Cliff Huxtable, the wholesome patriarch on the Emmy nominated show The Cosby Show, which ran for eight seasons.
Over 60 women have accused Cosby of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery, child sexual abuse, and sexual harassment.
