Suge Knight says he will not take the stand in Tupac Shakur’s murder trial.
In a recent interview with ABC News, the former Death Row CEO says that the case has “nothing to do with me.”
“This trial has nothing to do with me, and if somebody brings me there, it’s gonna hurt whoever brings me there. I promise you that,” Knight said
“They make me come there against my will. If Keffe D’s lawyers bring me there, it don’t look good for him,” Knight continued. If the prosecution brings me there, it don’t look good for them. Leave me out of it.”
Almost 30 years to the day after Tupac Shakur was gunned down while riding alongside Suge Knight, Duane Davis is on trial for murder. Prosecutors claim Davis called the hit, ordering his crew to open fire on Shakur in revenge for an earlier brawl.
Following Shakur’s killing, Knight told ABC News he wouldn’t participate in the investigation.
“I don’t get paid to solve homicides,” he said.
Knight is currently serving an unrelated 28-year sentence in California. He was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter stemming from a 2015 fatal hit-and-run in Los Angeles. Although his locked up, his stance has not changed.
THE NIGHT OF TUPAC’S DEATH
Shakur’s fatal shooting on September 7, 1996, was the culmination of a violent personal altercation earlier that evening. Shakur and Knight were deeply tied to the Mob Piru Bloods, a Los Angeles street gang, and attended a Mike Tyson boxing match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Shakur and his entourage spotted Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson—a South Side Compton Crip—in the lobby and brutally assaulted him in retaliation for a prior robbery.
Seeking revenge, Anderson’s uncle, Duane “Keffe D” Davis, allegedly organized a hit crew, secured a firearm, and set off in a white Cadillac to find Shakur. Hours later, while Shakur and Knight were stopped at a red light near the Las Vegas Strip, the Cadillac pulled alongside their BMW and opened fire, striking Shakur four times. The rap icon succumbed to his injuries six days later.
