Zaire Wade, the eldest son of NBA Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade, is facing a felony charge weeks after his arrest in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident in Southern California. Prosecutors filed the charge on Thursday, marking the latest development in a case that remains pending before the courts.
According to a felony criminal complaint filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Wade, 24, is charged with willfully inflicting corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition on a woman identified as someone with whom he had a dating relationship. The alleged incident occurred on June 21 in Burbank, California.
Authorities have not publicly identified the alleged victim.
Felony Complaint Filed
Police responded to a residence after receiving reports of a woman screaming early that morning. Officers reportedly located a woman with lacerations to her face and body upon arrival. Paramedics evaluated her at the scene. She was not transported to a hospital for additional treatment.
Following interviews with those involved, officers arrested Wade on suspicion of domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment. He was booked into custody before posting a $50,000 bond later that day. An emergency protective order also was issued for the alleged victim.
After reviewing the investigation, prosecutors elected to move forward with one felony count alleging corporal injury to a current or former dating partner. Court records state Wade is scheduled to be arraigned July 16 in Pasadena, California.
The criminal complaint alleges Wade “willfully inflicted corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition” on the woman. The filing further states the alleged victim was someone with whom he had a romantic relationship.
As of Friday, neither Zaire Wade nor representatives for the Wade family had publicly commented on the felony filing.
Basketball Career and Family Spotlight
Zaire Wade has remained in the public eye throughout much of his basketball career. He previously played at Sierra Canyon School before continuing his professional career overseas. Most recently, he competed for the Cape Town Tigers in the Basketball Africa League.
His father, Dwyane Wade, is regarded as one of the NBA’s greatest shooting guards. The three-time NBA champion enjoyed a decorated career with the Miami Heat and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Outside basketball, Wade has become a prominent businessman, television personality and advocate for his family.
The legal proceedings involving Zaire Wade remain in their early stages. A criminal charge represents an allegation, not a finding of guilt. Prosecutors must still present evidence in court, and Wade is entitled to contest the accusations through the judicial process.
Additional court hearings are expected following the July 16 arraignment as the case moves through the Los Angeles County court system. Prosecutors and defense attorneys are likely to address future motions and evidence during those proceedings.
