Ice-T has appeared in 456 episodes of Law & Order and he has no plans of stopping now.

Appearing on the Creators Inc. podcast, Ice-T revealed how playing Sgt. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola is a lucrative endeavor. When it comes to his contract,  he noted he has “signed two- or three-year deals that included annual raises.”

“I’m Black, and I don’t jump off a boat while it’s floating, even though I can swim,” he joked. “So that boat’s floating.”

When he received his first residual check, he knew he had landed a life-changing gig. After his first year on the show, Ice-T noticed an unexpected payment in his account and called his accountant to find out what it was.

“She said, ‘That’s residuals.’ I’m like, ‘What’s that?’ She goes, ‘Every time the show airs on the network, you get paid something. The show is on right now. This minute, it’s on.’ Ching-ching.”

The legendary rapper even named the show’s unmistakable two-note sound: “Dick Wolf’s cash register.”

“That day, I went from, ‘I don’t know how long I’ll do this show,’ to, ‘I will be on this show till they throw my Black a** off kicking and screaming,’” he continued.

For over two decades, legendary rapper and actor Ice-T has been a cornerstone of NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

ICE-T HAS STARRED IN ‘LAW & ORDER’ SINCE 2000

Joining the cast in Season 2 (2000) as a former narcotics detective, Fin brought a gritty, no-nonsense perspective to the squad room that perfectly balanced the more emotional approach of his colleagues. His legendary, dryly humorous partnership with the late Richard Belzer’s John Munch became a fan-favorite dynamic. And his fierce loyalty to Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) established him as the literal backbone of the unit.

Ice-T has made television history as the longest-running male actor in a scripted U.S. primetime drama. He’s  proved that a role originally planned for just a short, four-episode arc could turn into one of the most enduring legacies on modern television.
