Bronx native, Fat Joe, received one of the highest honors in New York City. The 54-year-old rapper was presented with the Key to the City by Mayor Eric Adams during a special ceremony at Orchard Beach in the Bronx, marking a monumental moment in his storied career.
“Fat Joe who’s getting the Key to the City of New York. All his legendary—his music, a real brother, authentic—we want to give you this key,” Mayor Adams announced as he handed Joe the prestigious award.
Celebrating the Bronx and Hip-Hop
The honor was especially meaningful as it took place in the Bronx, the birthplace of hip-hop and the borough that shaped Fat Joe’s life and career. Standing on stage, Joe expressed his deep gratitude and paid tribute to the rap pioneers who inspired him.
“I want to shout out everybody here because we in the Bronx, and I know all of you. Every last one of you, I know you—I love you,” Joe said. He continued by acknowledging the legends of hip-hop, saying, “Shout-out my wife, my daughter, shout-out my favorite aunt in the world. I gotta thank the pioneers. From Melle Mel, Mr. Ness to KRS-One—my whole life I been trying to be KRS-One—LL Cool J, Heavy D, and the list goes on.”
Fat Joe’s Year of Success
This recognition adds to what has already been a milestone year for Fat Joe. Beyond receiving the Key to the City, he has ventured into television with his upcoming talk show, “Fat Joe Talks,” set to debut on STARZ this fall. The show, executive produced by LeBron James and Fat Joe himself, promises to feature thought-provoking interviews with high-profile guests.
Additionally, Joe’s voice will resonate throughout the 2024 U.S. Open as he serves as the official voice of the tournament. Earlier this year, he was honored with an honorary doctorate from Lehman College and performed at a rally for President Joe Biden in North Carolina.
