A 29-year-old mother, Gwendolyn Guyton, was tragically stabbed to death during a violent altercation inside a Bronx deli on Thursday afternoon.
Guyton was fatally stabbed by another woman inside Jose Mini Mart at 549 Southern Blvd, in Longwood around 3:15 p.m., according to the NYPD. Witnesses said it was the result of an argument that escalated.
Guyton walked into the bodega and her attacker came in shortly after. Words were exchanged, then a knife came out.
The altercation quickly escalated into a physical fight before the assailant fatally stabbed Guyton in the neck and torso multiple times.
Surveillance video showed the suspect riding away on a white scooter after allegedly stabbing Guyton to death, according to police.
Alex, a bodega worker, recounted his desperate attempt to intervene.
“I was trying to save the girl and at the same time to get her out of the store before she got stabbed,” he told reporters. “But when I saw the knife, I was trying to help…the victim.”
Despite Alex and a coworker’s efforts to provide aid while waiting for medics, Guyton’s injuries proved fatal.
Guyton was the mother to a 10-year-old. A close friend of hers who wished to remain anonymous said Guyton was the “sweetest person you’d want to meet.”
The suspect has not been arrested as of yet according to Pix 11.
A vigil, filled with candles, outside of the bodega has been made in Guyton’s honor.
