A story many of us have been following on social media since 2016 has gotten it’s most recent update and users have been ecstatic about the news! But first, here’s a refresher.

Somebody grandma is coming in clutch this year!! Ayee!!! pic.twitter.com/QGrx83nHLl

Back in 2016, Jamal Hinton received a text from an unknown number that mapped out what the Thanksgiving plans were for the year. When he asked who was texting him,  number said they were his grandmother and sent a picture. It was clear that the woman on the other end was contacting the wrong person. That didn’t stop Hinton from asking for a plate  to which the woman replied “Of course you can, that’s what grandmas do… feed everyone.”

Then the story began.

Wanda Dench opened up her home to Hinton for the next six years. Her and her husband, Lonnie Dench, have created a new tradition for Thanksgiving not only for her family but for social media users as well.

The Effect On Social Media

Each year, many of Hinton’s followers make it clear that they expect an update on his Thanksgiving plans with the Dench family. Just last week when Twitter joked about the end of app due to the effects of Elon Musk’s buyout, one person tweeted “how am I supposed to find out about @Jamalhinton12’ thanksgiving with Wanda Dench if Twitter is gone?????

Luckily for that user, Twitter has not gone under just yet, and Hinton was able to update everyone on this year’s Thanksgiving plans.

He tweeted on Tuesday, “To answer all your questions, yes Thanksgiving year 7 is planned out! See you guys Thursday!” Fans were excited to see the tradition still stand strong, even after the Dench family announced in 2020 that they lost one member.

As some of you may have already found out tonight Lonnie did not make it… he passed away Sunday morning but Wanda told me all the love and support he was receiving put a huge smile on his face so I thank every single one of you guys for that! ❤️ https://t.co/tNvals0FMh

During the height of the pandemic, Wanda and Lonnie Dench both contracted COVID. While Wanda was able to recover, her husband unfortunately did not make it.

The family has not missed any opportunity to keep Lonnie with them as they continued their yearly traditions. Jamal has always made it clear that Lonnie’s presence in his life affected him for the better.

Netflix Deal

Just last year it was announced that the family has joined forces with Netflix to bring their very unique and heartwarming story to the small screen!

I am very excited to announce our new partnership with Netflix. We thank every single one of you for your love and support in our journey the last 6 years. We can’t wait to tell our story on the big screen! pic.twitter.com/0heCmEWMDM

As we all wait for the project to be released all we can do is continue to follow Jamal and Wanda’s adventures on social media as they always show love and support for one another.
