From her chart-topping albums to her acclaimed new musical Hell’s Kitchen, Alicia Keys embodies the essence of a cultural renaissance woman. According to Billboard, she is set to unveil a new documentary titled Uncharted, with the full-length feature premiering on Paramount+ on October 22.
The documentary offers a candid look at the access challenges faced by young Black and brown women in the music industry. Spotlighting rising talents like Chicago R&B star Jean Deaux, the film follows these artists as they navigate their journeys in pursuit of the next major hit. Keys stated, “Everything done in this film was done by women in every capacity.” “You get a true sense of the journey of these artists and the songwriting process which is so special.”
Uncharted, produced by Keys and directed by Emmy and Peabody Award recipient Beth Aala, provides an intimate glimpse into Keys’ She Is The Music songwriting camp. Founded in 2018 by Keys, Grammy-winning engineer Ann Minicieli, Universal Music Publishing Group CEO Jody Gerson, and UTA’s global music head Sam Kirby Yoh, the initiative strives to amplify women’s roles in the music industry. This campaign focuses on expanding opportunities for women, ranging from songwriters to lighting directors.
