Amanda Seales recently claimed that Erykah Badu got her fired from a television writing job.
During a livestream on Christmas Eve, Seales explained that she was asked to write for a show. On the project, Badu’s then-boyfriend was leading the head writer. Although Seales did not disclose a name, Badu formerly dated animator and television writer Carl Jones. He was the creator of Black Dynamite, and Badu lent her voice to several episodes.
Seales also alleged that Badu was cold towards her “many times” during their past interactions.
“Erykah got me fired from a job,” Seales alleged. “She got me fired from a writing gig. … Her man was the head writer of the show that I was writing on.”
Seales went on to speak about a conversation that she had with the head writer. She spoke about Badu’s agents having a “difficult time understanding her,” saying that she was “crazy.”
“These agents don’t understand crazy. They don’t understand that we’re not your regular-degular. So why would they understand her?” Seales continued.
Seales said her remarks were not meant as an insult. But that Badu’s boyfriend at the time “thought that she was ‘disrespecting’ the legendary singer.
Reportedly, the head writer took offense and informed Badu, leading to Seales being dropped from the project. Shortly after, Badu allegedly sent her a cryptic text stating.
“And out of the blue, I got a text from Badu. It read ‘Oh, I didn’t know you were a comedy writer. I was like, ‘Surprise! ‘” Seales said.
Seales further noted that her relationship with Badu had been strained for years. The two had a tense exchange where Badu allegedly warned her off from interacting with her then-partner, Jay Electronica, on social media. Seales said it was a “weird conversation.”
“We met because Jay Electronica and I were talking on Twitter,” Seales said. “And she DM’d me and was like, ‘You know Jay Electronica’s my man.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah?’”
“But she never had anything to worry about,” Seales added. “That’s not my vibe.”
